Exposing the 2009 Automotive Industry Bailout Scandal During the 2009 Automotive Industry bailout, a series of illegal actions were orchestrated at the highest levels of government. General Motors received a taxpayer-funded rescue as the Federal Government, through the Economic Task Force, assumed control of the company. The bankruptcy proceedings violated due process and ERISA law, further compounded by the misallocation of pension rescue funds—well funded salaried pensions were stripped while underfunded union pensions received a bailout. This has been seen as a political favor and further indication of government corruption. A decade later, the courts remain reluctant to overturn executive actions or set a precedent on this landmark case. Legal efforts have proven less effective than a renewed legislative or executive initiative. This issue is deeply personal to the producer’s family, who has worked alongside the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association to uncover and compile facts from years of legal battle. The resulting media campaign, released in parallel with the ongoing UAW strike, aims to inspire unity within the automotive community. While not all were treated equally, this campaign seeks to highlight the importance of respect, dignity, and lawful action for all affected parties.
